I finally went and did it. Ground school started tonight. So far, it’s fairly dull. We started at least half an hour late. There were more students than chairs, so we wasted time locating more chairs. Then we wasted time with introductions, career paths for pilots, etc. I was surprised by the number of people in the class who are either young and starting a career in aviation or older and starting a second career in aviation. About half the class is there for fun or to make their jobs easier. One guy is an attorney who is tired of driving all over the state to represent his various clients.
In roughly six weeks, I should know this stuff well enough to pass the FAA exam. I haven’t yet decided how I’m going to do the flight school portion. I don’t have time to take the ground school course and study and fly. Since I’m driving home on the weekends, I can’t get the flying in unless I come back early Sunday and fly Sunday afternoons.
I guess we’ll get it figured out eventually. In the meantime, it looks like I have a lot of reading to do!

It’ll be awhile before you get into anything that’s interesting. Even then it will depend on how good the instructor is.
I really want to find a chance to get back into it. It’s been long enough that I’ll basically be starting from scratch.

I imagine that ground school without flying alongside will be a bit dull. Be patient with it - some of what’s taught may seem useless at the time, but will become more relevant when you’re flying.
It’s a great adventure- good luck!!

I expect it to be dull, so no surprises there. I just wish some of the other students would shut their mouths and let the instructor get on with it.

This school offers lifetime access. If you take a break and want to sit in on a refresher course before flying again, you are welcome.

I took private pilot ground school on my way to an intended career as an air traffic controller (didn’t work out). Hope you enjoy and get something good out of it.

Good luck! The father of a good friend of mine has his private pilot’s license and we’ve been up with them a few times before in Cessnas! :)
